“The Oven” Is Not So Hot

Posted by Matt on September 25, 2007

After commercializing their stadium name out to Papa John’s (the Louisville Cardinals play at Papa John’s Stadium), the witty folks of Louisville (Loo•WEE•vill or LOO•vull or Lew•IS•vill… ah, screw it) decided to nickname their stadium “The Oven.” This really makes one appreciate how virtually all of the stadiums in the SEC have names indicative of that school’s, or state’s, history.

That being said, “The Oven” isn’t so hot anymore, now is it?

Syracuse, a team that sports the most hideous home jerseys in all of college football:

…and were ranked 115th or worse in practically every major offensive category, came in to “The Easy-Bake Oven” and dropped 38 points in a 38-35 win over the Cardinals.

For those of you who don’t know, that now means that the mighty Louisville Cardinals have been beaten 78 – 69 over their last two games; however, for the life of me, I cannot remember who that other team was that beat them just over ten days ago…

Despite all of the heart ache that has come, and will continue to come, this season, the citizens of Louisville should consider themselves lucky that a leading brand of toilet cleaner didn’t put up the money a few years ago to make their football venue officially: “Ty-D-Bol Stadium”…because, of course, the nickname of that stadium would have most definitely been:

“The Shitter”

But come to think of it, that nickname may be more fitting these days than “The Oven”…
