Leftovers From The Bon-Ton (8/14)
Posted by Ryne E. Hancock on August 14, 2007
Today is my first day at Crichton College and since I have less than an hour to go before my next class, I figured I could entertain you readers with some observations from the sports world that don’t fit in our blog.
- Barry Bonds said after last night’s game against the Pittsburgh Pirates that 2008 will very well be his final season. Of course, Bonds’ presence in the Steel City was nothing more than a punch in the stomach to the Pirate organization after letting him go to San Francisco, saving the franchise from moving to South Florida. My message to the city of Pittsburgh is this: DON’T YOU FEEL STUPID?
- Legendary broadcaster, and Hall-of-Famer, Phil Rizzuto died this morning at the age of 89 after a long illness in a New Jersey nursing home. Our thoughts and prayers go with the Rizzuto family as well as the Yankees organization.
- Some news that should be of interest to Eastern Kentucky and Western Kentucky fans, the Eastern-Western football game is in jeopardy due to politics. Maybe they couldn’t agree on what type of bourbon they could both bring, Evan Williams or Jim Beam. They both taste the same.
- Jerrell Powe finally breaks through the bureauatic mess that is the NCAA and finally begins classes at Ole Miss. One more reason why the NCAA sucks.
That’s about it for now from me. It’s 95 degrees here on the campus of Crichton College and plenty of potential Mrs. Hancocks for me to find. Problem is, will they fall for a sportswriter or a bum?
