In news not actually to be made light of (despite the headline), ESPN.com is reporting that former Senate Majority Leader and current lead investigator in to the steroids-in-baseball investigation George Mitchell has been diagnosed with prostate cancer.

According to the article, the outlook is a positive one for Mr. Mitchell and word from Mitchell himself is that the diagnosis will not affect the investigation adding that it will be completed in “the coming months.”:

“The cancer is small, low grade, and localized, and can be effectively treated and cured,” Mitchell’s doctor Harvey Klein said in a statement released by the firm. “The prognosis is very good.” –ESPN.com

It is unknown at the moment if Barry Bonds had anything to with the former Senator being stricken with prostate cancer but the possibility cannot be overlooked.

In all seriousness, again, thoughts and prayers go out to George Mitchell as cancer is no joke.  According to the American Cancer Society, “1 man in six will get prostate cancer during his lifetime,” so for all of you elder fans of TNB out there, make sure to get your rectums checked periodically…

“Doctor said RECTUM? Damn near KILLED ‘EM!”
