Gillispie’s New Pad

Posted by Matt on August 9, 2007

As some of you ‘TNB’ regulars might remember, I reported on the 12th of June, in an article titled Billy Gillispie: Real Estate Connoisseur, some inside information regarding the housing search for Kentucky’s newest floor general. In the article, I discussed housing and real estate that Gillispie was looking in to that fell within the $2.5 million dollar price range and was located on the outskirts of Lexington, Kentucky.

Well apparently the housing search has ended for Billy Clyde as is reporting that Coach Billy Clyde has finalized the contract on a $1.45 million dollar house that was purchased on August 2, 2007. And although cheaper than I originally reported, it is clear that Coach Gillispie spared no expense for his personal comfort and is still living on the ‘outter rim’ of the city, as I noted six weeks ago:

Some of the amenities of the Texan’s new ranch are as follows:

  • 12,000 square feet
  • 6 bedrooms
  • 8 bathrooms
  • 3 half-baths
  • 2 garages
  • A full theater
  • A cabana room
  • A weight room
  • A wet bar
  • A library
  • A wine cellar

In a funny comparison of sorts, Valarie Honeycutt Spears of the Lexington Herald-Leader compares the aforementioned specifications with the houses purchased by former University of Kentucky coaches Rick Pitino and Tubby Smith:

Rick Pitino: Built a 9,000-square-foot house at 871 McMeekin Place in 1990. Sold it to Dr. Thomas G. and Jami Abell in 1998 for $1,425,000.

Tubby Smith: Bought a 6,400-square-foot house at 1600 Harmony Hall Lane for $860,000 in 1997. Smith is still listed as the owner of record, but the “For Sale” sign in the yard is gone.” –Valeri Honeycutt Spears,

Every thing is bigger in Texas, or so they say, and it seems as if Billy G. was unable to leave that lifestyle behind. The house is located in the Forest Hill Estates off of Harrodsburg Road in Lexington, Kentucky near Man O’ War Boulevard.
