Michael Vick Court Appearance Thursday

Posted by Matt on July 26, 2007

Every man has their day and today is Michael Vick’s. Mike will appear in front of a judge in a Federal Courtroom today for the first time since his indictment. We’ll be bringing you all of the up-to-date “Ookie” coverage in The Rolling Ron Mexico Rundown.

We haven’t forgotten about ‘roids or Donaghy, either, it is just a matter of what is important on any given day. Check David Stern’s Press Conference Bullet Points for anything you might have missed in the latest Tim Donaghy gambling saga news.

On to a few Thursday quick hits:

♦ The Cincinnati Reds defeated the Milwaukee Brewers last night by a final score of 7-3 on the back of a Kyle Lohse 5.2-inning, 5-hit, 1-earned run performance and 3-RBIs by Jeff Keppinger, who is really starting to turn heads in Cincinnati. Lohse, who will be shopping for a new deal in the off-season, looks to be pitching as if he finally realized he is in a contract year. Kyle has three 1-earned run performances in his last five games, but the other two games of that five saw him combine for 9-earned runs; needless to say, Lohse is still somewhat inconsistent. Bobby Livingston takes the hill today in the final game of this four-game series against Dave Bush. First pitch is at 12:35PM EST.

Alex Rodriguez hit his 499th career home run last night and now has 35-home runs and 102-RBIs already this season which is unbelievable to me as I still feel that A-Rod is under appreciated in New York (see: You Can’t Have A-Rod; No, Not Yours [link]). The man is turns only 32 tomorrow (Happy Birthday A-Rod!) and seems to be way ahead of anybody else’s pace to hit the 500 career home run mark. Barring injury, A-Rod will be the all time leader in home runs and has a legitimate shot at 800, though it seems that this is just not being talked about in the media. Tom Glavine also earned his 299th career win at the same time last night, which is yet another accomplishment in it’s own right. Now under the shadow of Barry Bonds are two more impressive baseball milestones that will more-or-less go unnoticed. Congrats to both of these superstars, they’re both first-ballot Hall of Famers in my opinion.

♦ We are still awaiting word on NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell’s decision on Cincinnati Bengal Odell Thurman. Thurman is currently hoping for reinstatement from a year-long suspension for multiple violations of the NFL Personal Conduct Policy. I believe he will be reinstated, in time, but at this point, Old Man Goodell has bigger fish to fry with NFL poster boy, Ron Mexico, looking to do hard time. As soon as the decision comes down, however, we’ll have the coverage.

A LOT more to come with “Charlie Hustle” working on some stuff about all three of the major sports leagues’ commissioners; I think you’ll really enjoy it. When I update The Rolling Ron Mexico Rundown again, it will appear back at the top of the screen as we’re constantly reworking things to get everything the coverage it deserves. I start my one-week vacation tomorrow but I’ll have laptop in tow to keep in touch with all of you lovely viewers and “Condo” and “Charlie Hustle” will be around to give you the same t.l.c. that you’ve come to expect from “The Nasty Boys.”

Big days here lately, let’s keep it rolling…check back later…

  1. This just came from the wires, Matt. The NFL just rejected reinstating Odell Thurman. It was in the Cincinnati Post this morning.

    More to come later.
