Homerun Derby

Posted by Bob Swerski on July 9, 2007

The roster for the Homerun Derby tonight is set except for the 8th spot which will be replacing Miguel Cabrera who is out with a shoulder injury.

The field includes left handers Prince Fielder from the Brew Crew, Ryan Howard from the Phillies, and Justin Morneau from the Twins. Batting from the other side of the plate will be Toronto’s Alex Rios, Vlad Guerrero from Anaheim, Albert Pujols from the Cardinals, and Magglio Ordonez from the Tigers. There are probably a few different choses for the last spot. They might give it to a popular chose like David Ortiz, or they might give it to someone breaking 500 or 600 like Frank Thomas or Sammy Sosa. All 3 of which have 14 HR on the year. You might someone more deserving like strike out king Adam Dunn with 24 dingers or Torii Hunter with 19. I personally would like to see Alfonso Soriano with 15 get picked. Barring Soriano not being the 8th man, my pick to click is Ryan Howard, to make it the first player to go back to back since Ken Griffey Jr. (’98-’99).

Prince Fielder: 29 HR, .284 AVG, .620 SLG

Ryan Howard: 21 HR, .256 AVG, .555 SLG

Justin Morneau: 24 HR, .295 AVG, .581 SLG

Alex Rios: 17 HR, .294 AVG, .520 SLG

Vlad Guerrero: 14 HR, .325 AVG, .547 SLG

Albert Pujols: 16 HR, .310 AVG, .516 SLG

Magglio Ordonez: 13 HR, .367 AVG, .604 SLG
