The Adam Dunn Trade Audition

Posted by Matt on June 18, 2007

The Adam Dunn Trade Audition continued through the weekend, despite the Cincinnati Reds losing 2-of-3 to the Texas Rangers at home in Interleague play.  The trade rumors on the “Big Donkey” really started heating up on June 11, 2007, when it became apparent that Wayne Krivsky and the Cincinnati Reds were taking offers on Dunn.  The 11th was an off day for the Redlegs and they resumed play on June 12 and, since then, Adam Dunn has had quite the line:

  • 12-for-24 in 26 plate appearances  (.500 batting average) with 1 double, 4 home runs, 8 RBIs, 6 runs, and 2 walks to only 7 strikeouts with an on-base percentage of .538

It seems as if Adam is auditioning for something, as if this were a contract year, which it would be if here were to be traded, thus voiding his 2008 club option and making him a free agent at the end of the season.

Or maybe, just maybe, Dunn is auditioning to stay, showing the management what he can really do for this ball club as it is a fairly well-known fact that Dunn is really close to fellow outfielder Ken Griffey, Junior and would probably prefer to stay in Cincinnati.

And if he didn’t stay in the ‘Queen City,’ it is probably true that he would like to return to his home state of Texas, so is it merely a coincidence that he plate some of his better baseball at the plate in a series against the Texas Rangers?

Only time will tell as to what the result will be in the Adam Dunn trade saga, but if he does stay long-term in a Cincinnati Reds uniform, we ought to tell him he is getting canned more often if this is how he responds.
