Revenge of the Reds

Posted by Matt on May 25, 2007

This week’s four-game series with the Washington Nationals was a classic case of revenge. Outed former General Manager of the Reds, Jim Bowden, brought his trio of former Reds of Austin Kearns, Felipe Lopez and Dmitri Young back to Cincinnati to take three-of-four in the series. Not only was it a case of revenge for the four betrayed, but it also lofted the Nationals above the Reds for the title of “Worst Record in Major League Baseball.”

The stats for our fallen ones on the series:

  • 1B Dmitri Young: 8-15 (.533), 3 Runs, 5 RBIs, 1 BB, 1 SO — (batting .286 on the season)
  • 2B Felipe Lopez: 7-20 (.350), 4 Runs, 6 RBIs, 3 SO — (batting .250 on the season)
  • RF Austin Kearns: 5-17 (.294), 3 Runs, 4 RBIs, 3 SO — (batting .249 on the season)

Our current players in those positions did fairly well in the series also, but it matters much less when you only win one of four games. Furthermore, it is frustrating to see a fledgling team come in to Cincinnati and beat up on the Reds with our former players leading the charge, especially when they’re playing well above their season average.
