Welcome To The Season Mr. Gonzalez, Junior

Posted by Matt on April 25, 2007

The Reds had what you would like to call a “complete game,” for the first time in a long time, in their 10-3 stomping of the Cardinals in Saint Louis last night.

The pitching was solid: Aaron Harang went 7 2/3 innings of 5-hit, 2-earned run baseball, striking out five and only walking one. Stanton and Coffey combined for 1 1/3 innings of 5-hit, 1-earned run baseball to seal the win. That is what the big leaguers call a start, a setup, and a save (even though the Reds were too far ahead for Coffey to actually record a save).

The hitting was great: 10 total runs and Alex Gonzalaz went 4-5 with 4-runs, 5-RBIs, with 2-home runs, his first two of the season and Ken Griffey, Jr. went 1-4 with 1-run, 2-RBIs on his first home run of the season with a walk and a strikeout. Welcome to 2007 to Alex and Kenny.

The defense was, well, present for the game: At least they went a hole game without an error considering they had 18-errors through 19-games heading in to last nights contest.

The Reds face Braden Looper and the Cardinals again tonight at Busch Stadium at 8:10PM with Bronson Arroyo taking the hill tonight. Let’s hope that the Reds’ bats did not use all of their good hits for the week last night.
