Chuck Hayes’ Tuesday Morning
Posted by Matt on April 24, 2007
I was fortunate enough to be watching the Rockets versus Jazz playoff game last night and Kentucky fan favorite Chuck Hayes stole the show. Chuck was 5-5 from the field, 2-2 from the free throw line, with 12 points and 12 rebounds in 28 minutes of play with only 1 turnover. Remember, this guy is 6 feet, 6 inches tall, there are point guards in the NBA as tall as Chuck, yet he still pounds it down low with the big boys. Yao Ming is a full foot taller and only had 1 more rebound in 7 more minutes of play than did Hayes.
The explanation? Simple, hard work and determination. The ‘never-say-die’ attitude of #44 during his tenure at the University of Kentucky is what made him one of Kentucky’s most beloved Wildcats and it has translated nicely to the professional game. Chuck Hayes has got to be one of the more undervalued Forwards in the league putting up double-doubles in the Playoffs while only making $664,209.
Chuck is starting for a playoff team and making headlines while doing so, way to make us proud in the Bluegrass!
