100,000; And It’s Thanks To You
Posted by Doc Hancock on December 31, 2007
When I joined up with Matt and the rest of the guys on June 12th of this year, the blog that you are reading now was nowhere near what it is today.
For the most part, and this is from my own opinion, the rest of the world figured that four (we added “Bob Swerski” before the trading deadline to make it five) college-aged guys, three of whom who grew up together in Dayton, Ohio and one who spent three years as a columnist and delivery boy for a small newspaper in North Shelby County, didn’t have a clue when it came to sports.
But in the end, we’ve proved them wrong as we enter the final day of 2007 on the cusp of 100,000 hits in our first year of operation, a small feat for a blog that only six months ago was a complete afterthought in the blogosphere.
This coming as we say goodbye to the legendary Cincinnati Post, which will print its final edition at 9:25 Cincinnati time to close out 126 years of dependable journalistic service for Greater Cincinnati.
So it’s an honor for us to share the opportunity of reaching 100,000 hits on the same day that Cincinnati closes out an era in journalism.
The purpose of this blog, and this has been our mission since day one, is to provide you with insightful commentary on our teams and the national sports scene without any bias.
And if you’ve been on here throughout the last six months or even recently, rest assured, we’ve lived up to that mission statement of intelligent commentary mixed in with humor.
Sure, we’ve had our fair share of haters, most notably the church I attended and a couple of slacker friends who’s spent too much time twiddling their thumbs – as well as the idiots who left racist messages on our website during the Michael Vick scandal – but despite that, this blog has been a tremendous experience for all of us.
For Crichton College, it has given the school a wider audience and debunked the whole thing about us being in Omaha and playing in the Missouri Valley Conference. With this blog, people around the world can learn about the ongoings of the Crichton athletic programs as well as be introduced to characters like the random hottie (can’t release the real name due to fear of lawsuit, but people know who she is) or the namesakes of my award for the upset of the week in college football.
That, my friend, is something the University of Memphis can’t even brag about: a humorous sports blog that is popular not only in Memphis but also the region.
Before I put the wraps on will be the 94th column I’ve written for TNB, I would like to thank all of readers and affiliates again for what has been an enjoyable experience for all of us here at TNB.
Without your support, this blog would be nothing more than an afterthought here in the South.
And good night, random hottie, whoever you may be, wherever you are.
